5G moves forward in Latin America
Spectrum Costa Rica is working on a 5G multi-band auction scheduled for 2H 2023. The award includes spectrum in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, 3.5 GHz, 26 GHz and 28 GHz bands. The award will include coverage obligations and special rules for entrant operators. Peru is working on the refarming and award of the 3.5 GHz band for 5G services. The 3.4–3.6 GHz band is currently assigned to three mobile network operators (Telefónica, América Móvil and Entel) and to the fixed operator Americatel (Entel group). The MTC authorised America Movil and Entel to use the band for 5G services. 5G services are available in Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru. Our Americas Spectrum Benchmarks (updated in May 2023) provides more details and covers 5G initiatives and pioneer bands in the Americas. |
