Telecoms The highest court of the EU fined Ireland, Latvia, Poland, Portugal and Slovenia €12.4m in total for not meeting the deadline to transpose the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC, Tracker) by the deadline of 21 December 2020. Poland has still not completed the transposition. |

Media The European Parliament endorsed the informal agreement on the EU Media Freedom Act. The text now needs to be endorsed by the Council. It will apply from the summer of 2025. Sustainability The European Commission has identified in a research report 19 potential common indicators for measuring the environmental footprint of electronic communications networks, of which eight were assessed as high priority. The report should lead to a code of conduct for the sustainability of EU telecoms networks, and future possible inclusion within the EU taxonomy. |

Media The European Commission launched formal proceedings against the very large online platform AliExpress for possibly breaching the Digital Services Act. Cullen International's Media Tracker summarises other enforcement proceedings (against X and TikTok) and pending requests for information to other very large online platforms and search engines. |
